Sprinkles Cake

This is the perfect cake for when you don't have much time but you still want to impress...

I made this for my sisters birthday and I am going to be honest with you here... I didn't make the cake myself. But who would know!! I wanted to spend the time on the decoration so I decided to buy two small sponge cakes and just piece them together!

I then covered the cake in buttercream icing (again shop bought in a tub), using a spatula crumb the cake first with a thin layer then add more in a 'rustic' way to get the nice effect you see below. Just move slowly around the cake smoothing out little sections.

Then I added coloured sprinkles to the top starting with the outside of the circle and added a few in the middle.

For the topper I took two of my paper straws from Iced Jems and some twine. The bunting is super easy to do - I printed these out - I liked the handwritten look of this font and then cut them in to little triangles. Then just lay them down in the right order, letters down,  added a touch of glue along the top and lay down the twine so it sticks to the bunting.

SO there you go a super easy quick but gorgeous looking cake for that special occasion !!

Tiny Fabric Art

Here is a super easy make for you for a gift for someone or to make for yourself.

Using a sewing machine or you could even hand stich these just take a few little scraps of fabric, I used some floral and then just plain white felt for the backing.

Cut out a little heart out of the patterned fabric and cut the backing slightly bigger to give it a little border.

Sew them together on to some card and there you have it, a lovely little piece of artwork. I popped mine in a cute little box frame from The Range.

Do share if you make any yourself, I would love to see you creations !

You could add wording to these too to make them even more personal.

Thank you for reading and have a lovely creative weekend x

Gingerbread Family

I'll make this my last Christmas bake for you but I wanted to share these as you could adapt them for Valentines cookies / biscuits.

I struggled last year with a decent gingerbread recipe so asked for the help of a lovely baker Emma on Instagram and she was kind enough to share it with me and let me share it here so here it goes:

140g unsalted butter
100g dark muscavado sugar
3 tbsp golden syrup
350g plain flour
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
2tsp groud ginger
1tsp ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 200c/180c fan oven. Prepare trays with baking paper.

Melt butter, sugar & syrup in a pan. Mix flour, bicarb, spices and pinch of salt in a bowl. Stir in the butter mix to make a stiff ish dough. Form in to a disc and cover with cling film and pop in fridge to chill for 30 mins. It will look shiny and feel a bit slimy.

Roll out the dough and stamp out your little fellas. Bake for about 12 minutes until golden, leave to cool for 10 minutes then transfer to cooling racks, then enjoy !

I wanted to make a mini 'family' of Gingerbread for, you guessed it - my family. So I used a small cutter to make these little cuties and before popping them in the oven I imprinted their names in to their bellies using these fab stamps from Iced Jems

Tip: make up or at least group as many of the letters together ready before hand so once they are cut out you can stamp them all in one go rather than having to cut off all the pesky bits of plastic and make them up, preparation people !

How cute are they ? I packaged them together in couples which added to the cuteness in little cellophane bags and tied them with bakers twine.

Everyone loved them, some thought they were too cute to eat and have kept them, others went right ahead and bit their little heads off.

I hope you like them, enjoy x

Candy Cane Meringue Kisses

Happy Monday !

Now who wants something yummy with their morning coffee?

These were my favourite thing I have made so far I think.... they tasted delicious and looked pretty impressive too. I bagged some up for presents and ...ahem, ate quite a few myself !

I just followed my previous post for meringue kisses and made a few changes.

I used peppermint essence, just a few drops added to the mixture and added a few drops of red food colouring to the piping bags before adding the mixture to them, this gave the red stripe effect.

Once dry I dipped them in white chocolate and then sprinkled some crushed candy canes on them.

I really recommend trying these (they don't just have to be for Christmas - who has left over candy canes from the tree?!!) they really are delicious !!

Let me know if you try them and enjoy ! x

Homemade Advent Calendar

A VERY Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all had a wonderful festive period and feel thoroughly relaxed and raring to go for 2014. I am really excited about the coming year as I have a feeling it will be pretty special. We have a baby in the family due for one, so I cannot wait for that !!

Anyway I am sorry I went quiet over Christmas, I also had my birthday, some time off work and moved house and it was all fabulous and I am now fully recharged !

So I hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd share a few of my Christmas makes with you ? Is that weird, or annoying ? If so, let me know ! You can start planning for next year ;)

So firstly here is my family advent calendar. When I started this, we were staying at home as was my sister and her boyfriend so there was 6 of us - 24/6 is 4, so we each got 4 gifts !

You may have seen a sneak peak of this in the Iced Jems Christmas Magazine or on my Instagram account so have a look at the magazine for how to make it !

I absolutely LOVED making this and it was such a delight to see everyone so excited when it was their day to open !!

Some of the items in the bags included: Christmas socks, scratch cards, mini whiskeys, pocket mirror, wooly hat, everyones favourite sweets /chocolate and some cool little games. The gifts were mainly from Primark so it was affordable :)

Did anyone do a personalised advent calendar this year ? I think they are just so much fun and really make the run up to Christmas even more exciting !! Do share yours with me on instagram

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas ! x
