Grab the weekend by the horns !

I am not sure this is the correct use of this saying, but it's how I feel. I did something courageous and against all odds, I got up at 7am on a Saturday.....and went for a run !

Anyone who knows me will know I am NOT a morning person. I am quite ashamed to say on a normal working day I have been known to sleep in until 8:55am (I work from home) and crawl to my desk. At weekends, I could sleep all morning if it was up to me.

But not today ! Last night I had to urge to set out my running gear and make the most of my weekend. Rather than waking feeling sluggish and not rested, I wanted to feel energised and like I was making the most of life (or my weekend at least).

So I thought I would just share with you a few things that helped me in case you too, have considered an early power walk, jog or run in the early hours ! (I am aware people probably do this even earlier!)

So first things first I made sure the night before I have my 'outfit' ready, including socks and having my trainers set out with the laces untied ! (this did make a difference for me!)

I then made a playlist of fun songs on my phone (including Wannabe - Spice Girls, Happy - Pharrell Williams & some MJ) and made sure I had headphones.

The next thing to do, is tell your significant other, roommate or parents what you plan to do and have them laugh at you. This really is incredible motivation. (He is still asleep but I am looking forward to gloating).

Then set your alarm, just ONE alarm and get up when it goes off. Splash your face with water and get ready !

I hate carrying my key so I quickly grabbed some wool so I could tie it around my neck. (Under a layer so it didn't keep hitting me in the face!)

I chose socks that made me smile - I know this sounds crazy but every little helps ! I went for odd, just because it's more fun and chose bright colours ! One pink, one yellow ! 

Plan your route ! You can use google maps for this or just from your knowledge. Choose somewhere safe, and a decent distance that you know you can cope with - you don't want to do a big lap and find yourself stuck miles from home. If possible, choose somewhere that has a pretty finish ! In my case this was a little local pond, so I knew I was aiming for this. 

Then you can take some nice photos while you are cooling down ... 

And admire all the daffodils..

 At this point don't stop too suddenly and crouch down to take photos - you'll feel sick ! 

I walked over the bridge and stopped on it for a few minutes to catch my I am, pretty chuffed with myself ! 

and a little reflective hello to you all ... (making sure I don't drop my phone)

I then found a nearby bench and just relaxed a little, watching the ducks play..

Then I set off home and admired all the beautiful blossom trees...

And I smiled to myself that the shops weren't open yet ! 

Look at these awesome tomatoes...I'll have to go back later (as they weren't open yet !!) ha ha ! 

Anyway sorry, ha ha - on the way home I chose to 'shuffle' my music and it's pretty funny what you have forgotten you have on there. 

Always remember to stretch ! I did this when I got home in the garden and it was hard not to dance along to Hairspray ! 

Anyway, thanks for reading and I am now off to make banana pancakes and yes you guessed it .... go and gloat !

My weekend in pics

I just thought I would share a few of my favourite pics from my lovely weekend in Edinburgh for my Grandmas Birthday!

My Grandma at I at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, I took her to see Cinderella the ballet for her 94th Birthday.

A little robin that sat for ages for me while I practiced my photography skills at the Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh.

Our yummy pudding at The Dome, Edinburgh - highly recommended ! This was lemon tart with white chocolate sauce !

Pancakes made for our brunch by my Grandma.

A shutter speed experiment at the Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. It was SO much fun seeing the different effects you can get !

Looking through old things at my Grandmas and we came across my Great Grandmas telegram from the Queen for her 100th Birthday !

A super yummy hot chocolate with Si at the Cowdray Farm shop - home from a lovely weekend.

My roses from last week are even more beautiful than when we went away !

Gold Twiggy Tree

I love twiggy trees and have done for some time now but didn't want to spend out to buy one.

We were in Scotland for a long weekend recently and out on a walk, I saw the perfect little twiggy tree, so I popped it in the car and drove it all the way home !

I have recently moved house however and I think it might still be in my Parents garage, so... when I was walking out of college the other night (I am doing an evening Beginners SLR Camera Course) I saw one on the ground and it looked so cute still having some little fir cones attached.

So, I picked it up and brought it home.

I spent a little time thinking about what I was going to do with it and remembered I had recently picked up some Gold spray paint so 'wahoooo let's spray it gold' came to mind !

I probably didn't do it right, I just went outside and sprayed it. I didn't prep it or anything - are you supposed to ?

Anyway I am super happy with how it turned out. I let it dry for a few hours outside then popped it in a nice white pot I have from Ikea.


I added some Oasis to the pot and then covered it with some white tissue paper.

OOh it's so cute and I can't wait for Easter so I can cover it with lots of lovely eggs and decorations but I actually love it's little place in our flat and it might just stay out and change with the seasons.

Banana & Cinnamon Pancakes

Soooo it's one of my favourite days of the year tomorrow - Pancake Day.

I think I might have them for breakfast, lunch AND dinner, so I thought I would share with you my healthier version, just in case you were looking for an alternative.

These are also Gluten & Dairy free so good for those who avoid such things.

And they have banana in them as one of the main ingredients, so you are basically getting one of your 5 a day without even realising !!

So here is what you will need:

1 Banana
1 Egg
1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 Dessert spoon Gluten Free Flour

Can add chia seeds too for extra goodness !

So start by mashing your banana, this can all be done by hand but I use my mixer.

Then add the egg and mix some more. Then the flour and mix again....

Then finally pop in the cinnamon and give it one final mix. That's it. It's THAT easy !

Pop a little oil in your pan, olive or coconut if you want to be super healthy and pour a spoonful of your mixture in to the pan.

Just like you would with normal pancakes, give them 30 seconds each side and flip, until you get them how you like them !

Then for the fun bit - TOPPINGS.

There are SO many options here, you could chop more banana and add chocolate sauce or melted healthy chocolate, fruit and maple syrup but here I have gone for the perfect breakfast pancakes and added crispy bacon, maple syrup and some blueberries for good measure !!

Mmmmm what do you think ? Can you believe they are so healthy ? (apart from the bacon obviously)
